Bob Chapek, President of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (WDSHE), is responsible for the worldwide marketing, sales and distribution of the studio’s Disney, Touchstone, Miramax, Dimension and ABC properties in the home entertainment marketplace. 

Chapek is responsible for maximizing the commercial value of the company’s creative assets in the lucrative home entertainment marketplace, and as such, leads the development of business plans to exceed both short and long-term goals. In addition to the development of the creative marketing plans and retail programs designed to maximize sales, he oversees the development of various new technologies including next generation high-definition Blu-ray Disc features, such as BD-Live, Picture-in-Picture, BD-Java, etc., and electronic sell through distribution of WDSHE movies. Additionally, he is also responsible for managing the complex supply chain that eventually delivers hundreds of titles to thousands of retailers every year as well as the development of Disney DVD/Blu-Ray programming and supplemental materials for WDSHE titles that have been repeatedly recognized as the most innovative in the industry.

Chapek has led the organization to record-setting performances on titles as diverse as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Cars and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. He has also played a key role in the commercialization of the direct-to-video business through the DisneyToon line of sequels to Classic Disney movie franchises and the development of the Air Buddies live action movie franchise.

Chapek joined WDSHE in May 1993 as Director of Marketing and held several titles at increased levels of responsibility in Marketing at WDSHE until his promotion to President of North America in 2000. In this marketing capacity, he led the strategic and creative efforts on such record-setting titles as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Lion King, Toy Story and The Sixth Sense. He subsequently was promoted to President of the Global Home Entertainment business in 2006, leading the worldwide division to record-setting results.

Chapek is current Chairman, and for five years served as President, of the Digital Entertainment Group, an industry association comprised of movie studios, the music industry, and consumer electronics hardware manufacturers brought together to advocate and promote the many benefits associated with physical and electronic media and new digital technologies.

Prior to joining Disney, Chapek held brand management positions in the packaged goods industry with the H.J. Heinz Company and in the advertising business with J. Walter Thompson.

Chapek holds a B.S. degree from Indiana University (’81) and an M.B.A. from Michigan State University (’84) and resides in Southern California with his wife and three children.
