David Wertheimer is the Executive Director & CEO of the Entertainment Technology Center at the University of Southern California (USC). David was previously the president of Paramount Digital Entertainment and has been immersed in producing content, developing new technologies, and managing organizations (ranging from start-ups to divisions within publicly traded companies) for over 15 years. David was appointed in early 2007 to head the Entertainment Technology Center at the University of Southern California (ETC-USC), bringing his expertise to bear on the technological and sociological implications of providing content to consumers who desire it at any time and any place. Through this consortium, which brings together all the major motion picture studios and several leading technology, CE companies and service providers, David is helping to evangelize and de-mystify digital content distribution and consumption. ETC’s Anytime/Anywhere Content Lab, Anytime/Anywhere Consumer Research, and CxO Roundtables are helping multiple industries collaborate to make sense of content in the Internet age and to encourage consumer adoption of digital media. In addition to his prestigious stint at Paramount, Wertheimer was previously the founder and CEO of WireBreak Entertainment, a premier digital content distribution and television production company; Executive Director of the Institute for Creative Technologies; and held technology and business management positions at Oracle and NeXT. His background and day-to-day interaction between students, studio executives and technology/CE strategists, put David in the perfect spot to speak about the state of digital entertainment: How is digital entertainment changing what consumers really want? How is Hollywood taking advantage of digital distribution? What types of entertainment do consumers want in a digital world? What do next-generation consumers want today and into tomorrow? How are companies addressing that desire on the part of consumers? …and many other topics that place the consumer together with future technologies. Wertheimer was named one of five entertainment executives to watch by USA Today and one of three individuals leading the next generation of convergence by the Hollywood Reporter. David’s previous speaking experience includes CES, NAB, Digital Hollywood, CTIA, CTAM and many more.
