With DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group since its formation in 1997, Amy Jo Smith serves as executive director of the industry-supported trade coalition dedicated to advancing home entertainment products and exploring other digital entertainment products. Under her leadership, the DEG is credited with helping to make DVD the fastest growing consumer electronics product in industry history.

Smith is responsible for managing the trade association and marketing DVD, Blu-ray Disc and digital entertainment on behalf of the Hollywood studios, music companies and leading consumer electronics manufacturers. Smith is responsible for administration and the marketing and public relations of the group including media relations, trade outreach and collateral materials.
Under Smith’s leadership, the DEG membership base has grown to include more than 60 leading companies in the home entertainment space. As part of their work, they engage regular dialogue with the DEG Retail Advisory Board including mass merchants, regional, online, e-tailers, rental chains and independent retailers. The DEG also has a comprehensive initiative aimed at bettering eco-friendly practices of home entertainment products.

In 2007, Smith was the recipient of the Visionary Award presented by Home Media Magazine and Hollywood Reporter. She was given the industry’s top honor for her tireless efforts for evangelizing home entertainment products. Smith was listed in Video Business’ Women Elite in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Prior to joining the DEG, Smith served a brief tenure as communications advisor for the Clinton White House. She also worked on the Clinton for President campaign in 1992. She was an aide to Los Angeles Mayor Dick Riordan, Los Angeles City Council President John Ferraro and Los Angeles School board president Mark Slavkin.

Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Nancy D. Sidhu is Vice President and Chief Economist in the Kyser Center for Economic Research of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation.  The LAEDC is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to assisting business firms and fostering job growth in Los Angeles County. Dr. Sidhu analyzes and prepares forecasts of national, regional and industry trends for the LAEDC’s economic publications and delivers speeches to audiences throughout California. Dr. Sidhu is frequently quoted in California publications including the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Daily News, Los Angeles Business Journal, and Orange County Register and has appeared on network TV and radio stations including KNX, KABC, KCBS, KNBC, KTLA, and Fox to name a few.
Just prior to joining the LAEDC, Dr. Sidhu was a Senior Economist for Bank of America, specializing in the economic analysis of selected industries and the Southern California region.  Previously, she had served Security Pacific National Bank, where she prepared the Bank’s U.S. economic and interest rate forecast.
Dr. Sidhu received her Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science, and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Active in her profession, Dr. Sidhu chairs the Economic Advisory Council of the California Chamber of Commerce. She also is Associate Editor of Business Economics.  She has served as President of the Chicago and Los Angeles chapters of the National Association for Business Economics.

Akin Ceylan joined Lionsgate Entertainment in October 2005 and is serving as Executive Vice President of Supply Chain and Operations. Akin is responsible for setting the strategic direction for Operations in Home Entertainment and is responsible for overseeing supply chain related activities for distribution, DVD/Blu-ray manufacturing, system development that supports Home Entertainment, and supplier partner agreements – all with an emphasis on collaboration & execution, service performance, and cost efficiency.

Akin also served as Senior Vice President Domestic Operations at MGM Studios from 1999 – 2005 and was responsible for overseeing the Home Entertainment Group’s operational activities in North America where he played a key role in the development and management of self-distribution as part of MGM’s strategic growth plan.

Before joining MGM Studios in 1999, Akin’s tenure in retail spanned 19 years. He originally began his career with Dixie Farms Markets as a Clerks Helper from 1980-1983. Soon after, he spent 14 years with American Stores Company working in various capacities in both divisional and corporate headquarters, that included such responsibilities as a: Clerk, Grocery Store Manager, Replenishment Buyer, Replenishment Analyst, and a National Inventory Manager. Akin was instrumental in the development and implementation of American Stores centralized procurement & logistics program that served seven divisions and 1700 retail locations from 22 distribution centers through out the nation.

From 1997 – 1999, Akin joined Gelson’s Markets as a Grocery Category Buyer where he was responsible for developing category plans and pricing strategies to maximize margin and sales targets for an assigned group of categories.

Akin’s diverse background in retail and consumer packaged goods with a large emphasis in servicing customers is invaluable in achieving Lionsgate Entertainment’s strategic goals.

Akin Ceylan received his BSBA Management from Chapman University in 1990 and received a certificate in Contract Management from University of California Irvine in 1995.

Akin currently serves as the Vice Chair on the DEG’s Supply Chain Committee.
