Jim Cardwell helmed the world’s largest home video distribution company, Warner Home Video, from 2002 to 2005. A $5.5 billion global operation with 1,700 employees and 25 subsidiaries, WHV’s revenue stream and profitability increased by 10-35% each year and maintained #1 market share in the home entertainment industry during Cardwell’s tenure as president. He created two new divisions (TV on DVD and Special Interest), which contributed $1.5 billion in annual sales in less than 3 years and was instrumental in paving the way for WHV’s strategic positioning in emerging technologies such as Hi-Def DVD, electronic sell-though, portable video, etc.

A master’s degree holder in Economics from the University of Manchester in England, Cardwell’s remarkable career with WB started in 1977 when he joined the studio as an auditor coming from Price Waterhouse Coopers. Before becoming president, Cardwell was responsible for US and Canada for over 15 years, later adding Latin America, Australia and New Zealand to his overseer capacity in 1999. Among his notable contributions: successfully executing WHV’s strategic move from rental to video sell-through business, terminating the use of rack jobbers (middlemen) thus enabling direct-selling to major retailers, then later on installing revenue-sharing plans with rental retailers. Cardwell was instrumental in WHV’s purchase of video distribution rights to the MGM, UA, Cannon, Thorn EMI and other libraries. His tremendous contributions to WHV helped it grow to its present world-leader position.

Now, leveraging on his formidable expertise, Cardwell is an entertainment industry consultant and is expanding his horizon to the content production end of the entertainment industry, with a special focus on strategic financing and new business development for projects. Among his completed ventures are Bienvenue Cannes and Final Season and several other projects are in development.
