Barry Smith, Director of Sales, West10 Entertainment

Barry’s introduction into the home entertainment industry came as owner of the first mobile video rental franchise in Manchester in 1991.

In 1995 Barry joined TelMe.com, the first company to provide online access to BT’s Telephone Directory and Thomson’s Directory. Appointed Account Director, he moved to the ecommerce division which developed a trade website for the Builders Merchant Federation, where a prerequisite was accurate and timely metadata for the many SKU’s from the many suppliers to the building trade.

The lessons learned about gathering product, price and availability information from numerous trade suppliers as information was collected, collated, standardised, indexed, updated and supplied, proved invaluable when Barry returned to the entertainment industry in 2005, with his appointment as Director of Sales at West10. He initiated a strategy which has seen West10 develop from scratch into a leading provider of high-quality entertainment metadata.

Working with companies across the entertainment industry supply chain from studios and distributors to wholesalers, online retailers, retail outlets, the BVA and the UK Film Council, West10 ensures that clients have the metadata to drive consumer purchases, fulfil transactions and manage the supply chain in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
